Introduction: Adaptation is the level at which the older adult develops with the environment. There are different factors that contribute to the change in life that an older adult undergoes, that generally makes it difficult to adapt to constant changes. Objective: To evaluate the effect of play therapy on the levels of adaptation in the modes of interdependence and role performance of older adults from the gerontological center of the community of Tlahuelilpan, Hidalgo. Method: Applied research with correlational, quantitative scope, carried out from November 2022 to February 2023. Sampling of 100% of the registered population (n = 30), excluding older adults in a state of prostration. Results: With the use of Wilcoxon, the asymptotic (bilateral) significance is observed with a value of 0.463 in relation to the levels of adaptation in the interdependence mode and a value of 0.364 in relation to the levels of adaptation in the role performance mode. Conclusion: In the interdependence and role function modes, statistical significance of 0.463 and 0.364 was observed: play therapy has no effect on adaptation levels.
